"Diseases...Chronic
No More!"
It seems like
everybody is preaching about 'healthy lifestyle', 'get active' and 'wellness'
nowadays. But are we a living in a healthier world from all these messages? Indeed those
who are already leading a healthy lifestyle continue to do so, but what about those who
are not very healthy or already have some form of medical conditions? These are people who
needs greater attention!
Many diseases like
heart diseases, diabetes, cancers, osteoporosis, stroke etc have not only taken lives from
many and leave those who are still alive, struggling from just going through living their
everyday life.
The process of
early detection (through screenings and self-monitoring) and early treatments
(modifications to lifestyle and proper modifications) is the most important thing to do to
protect yourself from diseases.
These diseases are
usually caused by a combination of many different factors, some of which are modifiable
(like diet), others are not (like age), and some are still unknown. Although the risks of
most chronic diseases can't be totally eliminated, it can still be significantly reduced
through lifestyle modifications.
Fact: If everyone
in the developed nations had led a healthy lifestyle, majority of all the diseases can be
avoided.
Taking Coronary
Heart Disease as an example. A diet high in saturated fat, lack of exercise, obesity and
smoking are modifiable factors which can greatly reduce the chance of getting this chronic
disease. We have choices about our lifestyles that can almost determine whether or not we
will get this disease.
Physical
Inactivity: How often does your body get to move?
Obviously with
modern day's technology, not very much. Elevators, recliner chairs, remote controls and
cars does not challenge the body to move, yet our biological need for physical movement is
does not change, we still need to move around a lot to be healthy. When your body does not
get sufficient physical stimulus, it becomes weaker and it becomes susceptible to the
above mentioned diseases.
Exercise not only serves as a preventive medicine for many forms of
disease, in many cases, it can also be a cure. Yes it can help you to recover from
diseases, unlike many years ago, when we were all told to stay away from exercise if you
had a health problem.
How can we
help?
At Fitness Tutor,
one of key objectives is to help people who are diagnosed with stroke, cancer, chronic
back pain, heart diseases, psychological problems associated with body image and self
esteem issues (e.g. eating disorders, compulsive exercise behaviours), people who carry
risk symtoms like high blood pressure, blood lipid disorders, obesity etc. and put them on
track to a healthier lifestyle.
We will help these
people to overcome these diseases and shape them up. From helping diabetes patients manage
their blood sugar to helping stroke patients run, we have the exact formula. In general,
they all needed help and the assistance and reassurance of empathetic, knowledgeable,
trained staff.
Our
program aims to fill a void in our community by allowing these individuals to continue the
momentum they developed during regular physical therapy services.
If you
have been diagnosed with a health problem, let our team of exercise specialists help you
get back your health and well-being quickly.
